Hire or Ghost ("we", "us", "our") is a Chrome browser extension and associated web service operated by Florin Matei. We are committed to protecting your privacy and processing your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR").

3. What we do NOT collect

  • We do not read your LinkedIn messages or inbox
  • We do not scrape your LinkedIn profile or connections
  • We do not collect your email address
  • We do not collect browsing history outside of LinkedIn job pages
  • We do not use cookies or tracking pixels
  • We do not share or sell any data to third parties
  • We do not use your data for advertising purposes

4. How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to:

  • Display community-generated ghost job warnings on LinkedIn job listings
  • Count and aggregate reports per job listing
  • Process and respond to disputes
  • Prevent abuse of the reporting system

5. Data storage and security

All data is stored on servers located within the European Union. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission
  • API authentication to prevent unauthorized access
  • Access restricted to the data controller only
  • Regular security reviews

6. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide the service:

  • Ghost job reports: Retained indefinitely while the service operates, or until you request deletion
  • Dispute data: Retained for 12 months after resolution, then deleted
  • Local browser data (chrome.storage): Stored locally on your device and never transmitted beyond the extension's functionality

7. Your rights under GDPR

As a data subject in the EU, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Art. 15): Request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16): Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17): Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18): Request limitation of data processing
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20): Receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to object (Art. 21): Object to processing based on legitimate interest

8. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party. The only data visible to other users is:

  • The number of ghost job reports per listing (aggregated, anonymous count)

Reporter identities are never displayed to other users.

9. International transfers

All data is processed and stored within the European Economic Area (EEA). No data is transferred outside the EEA.

10. Children's privacy

Our service is not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Complaints

If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your EU member state of residence, place of work, or place of the alleged infringement.
